Three media workers employed by the TV channel Halk TV, which is close to the social democratic Turkish party CHP, have been arrested in Turkey.
They were arrested just before they were to broadcast the evening program on Tuesday, according to the channel's owner. The Turkish Journalists' Union TGS says in a statement that the event "embodies the pressures exerted on our profession".
Secular CHP is the main opposition party to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's Islamist-conservative AKP.
Istanbul Mayor Ekram Imamoglu, who belongs to CHP, also condemns the arrests.
According to the media rights organization Reporters Without Borders, Turkey ranks 158th out of the 180 countries ranked in the organization's press freedom index.
