A passenger bus and a truck have collided on a motorway in the state of Minas Gerais in eastern Brazil. More than 30 of the bus's 45 passengers have died and several people have been taken to hospital with injuries.
According to authorities, the bus got a puncture on one of its tires, which caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle and crash into the truck.
The governor of Minas Gerais, Romeu Zema, writes on X that the state government is being called in to help after the accident and provide the victims' families with the best possible support in dealing with the tragedy, "especially since it occurs just before Christmas".
