The Civil Defense in the Hamas-controlled strip reports that 34 dead, including several children, have been confirmed – but that dozens of people are still missing. According to some reports, it is feared that around 70 people were in the house.
The chances of rescuing more injured people are decreasing due to the ongoing shelling and artillery attacks, says the Civil Defense spokesperson Mahmud Bassal.
According to Israel, the attack was directed against "ongoing terrorist activities" in the area.
Beit Lahia is one of the most war-torn parts of northern Gaza, which has been besieged by Israel since the beginning of October and whose population, according to several reports, is perilously close to starvation due to food blockades.
Israeli attacks have also been directed against other areas. In a refugee camp in central Gaza, 15 people have been killed according to the Civil Defense, and in southern Gaza, a drone attack on Rafah has killed five people.
In Khan Yunis, Bassal reports that a drone was directed against a group of unarmed people in connection with an aid delivery, resulting in six people being killed.
