Malmö FF crushed Djurgården - racing towards gold?

League leaders Malmö FF completely dominated Djurgården in the series final at home. After the 4-0 win, the Scanians lead Allsvenskan by ten points. Was the battle for the SM gold decided already on the first day of September? No, it's never certain, but we have good chances, says 1-0 goalscorer Hugo Bolin.

The 30th and final round of the men's Allsvenskan is scheduled for November 10, but currently, there is no indication of a similarly thrilling conclusion as last year when Malmö FF defeated Elfsborg in a pure gold final in the season's last match.

After MFF's thrashing of table-second Djurgården at home in the 21st round, the Scanians have a ten-point lead over the Stockholm team, which, however, has one fewer match played.

Three goals in twelve minutes

The tension in Sunday's series final died within twelve minutes in front of 20,432 spectators.

We talked about it before in the dressing room, going out and really pushing the first 15-20 minutes here at home, and I think we did it perfectly, says MFF's Hugo Bolin to Max.

In the tenth minute – after a fine preparatory work by team captain Anders Christiansen – Hugo Bolin cut into the penalty area and scored the leading goal in Djurgården goalkeeper Jacob Rinne's left corner. A really classy goal by Bolin, who now stands on seven Allsvenskan goals.

Ten minutes later, Christiansen scored 2-0 from a position just outside the penalty area, and just two minutes later, 3-0 fell.

Bolin dribbled himself forward at the goal line, and his pass was deflected into the goal via defender Jacob Une Larsson. A goal that was booked as an own goal.

Then the match clock showed 22 played minutes.

Terrible. It can't be anything else when it's 3-0 after the first half, says Jacob Une Larsson to Max after the first half.

The gloom began on the bench

Striker Deniz Hümmet has been hot for Djurgården this year with eight Allsvenskan goals and four goals when the Stockholm team qualified for the autumn's Conference League.

Now Hümmet started on the bench, but the 27-year-old was substituted in directly in the second half along with Haris Radetinac and Miro Tenho.

Djurgården did create occasional pressure against Malmö's goal, but the sharpness in the finishes was lacking. Instead, MFF's top scorer Isaac Kiese Thelin could score his 13th goal of the season in the 80th minute to the final result 4-0.

After Sunday, there is an international break in Allsvenskan. The next round will be played on September 14-16.
