Emmanuel Macron has not appointed a new prime minister, despite it being six weeks since the French election where he lost the majority in parliament.
On Friday, leaders of the country's most important parties gather at the Elysée Palace for government negotiations. Macron's goal is to form "the broadest and most stable majority possible" and to be able to appoint a prime minister, according to the president's office.
The Left Alliance New People's Front (NFP) – which received the most mandates in the parliamentary election but far from its own majority – wants to see economist Lucie Castets on the prime ministerial post. However, Macron's associates have claimed that the Left Alliance is too weak to get the prime ministerial post.
Lucie Castets will be the first to meet Macron on Friday, accompanied by other representatives of NFP.
