Rose participated in the landing in Normandy during D-day on June 6, 1944, and was involved in liberating prisoners from the concentration camp Bergen-Belsen in northern Germany. He was shot in the leg during the landing but survived.
Rose, who was awarded a freedom medal for his efforts, lived in the Erewash district in northern England.
– Erewash was privileged to be able to count him among its inhabitants, said local district leader James Dawson, when he announced the death.
In May, Rose participated along with 45 other veterans in a commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II. He then said that he did not celebrate the current day 80 years ago when he received the message in Belsen, Germany.
We just did what we thought was right and it was a relief when it was finally over.
