During the first days of the year, the police have received several police reports from people in the Stockholm area who have been subjected to phone scams.
The scammer on the other end of the line has pretended to work at a library and said that the library will refund the amount for borrowed books that could not be delivered and then asked for access to the person's bank account.
According to the newspaper Mitti, one person has lost over half a million kronor.
Several libraries have issued warnings on their websites, including Järfälla and Sundbyberg.
I have filed a police report and we urge everyone who is contacted to file a police report as soon as possible, says Henrika Åström, library manager in Sundbyberg to Mitti.
The police are urging caution:
"Regardless of whether someone calls you or contacts you via email or SMS, you should not act on the instructions. Hang up, you don't have to be polite", says Johan Halling at the fraud section in Stockholm on the police website.
