Lebanese authorities have called an emergency meeting on Saturday, following the attack on the convoy that injured the deputy commander of the UN forces. President Joseph Aoun condemns the incident and promises to punish the perpetrators, according to a post on X.

"Security forces will not take lightly those who try to disrupt stability and peace", it says.

It was on Friday that the car, belonging to the UN peacekeeping forces in Lebanon (Unifil), was set on fire. The vehicle was clearly marked with the UN logo.

The road where the car was burned, between central Beirut and the country's international airport, has been blocked for two days by supporters of the Iran-backed Shia militia Hezbollah. They are protesting against two Iranian planes not being allowed to land.

It is not entirely clear how the car caught fire. Unifil has demanded an immediate investigation into the incident.
