President Nechirvan Barzani in the self-governing Iraqi Kurdistan writes on X that the region fully supports the peace process and urges PKK to follow Öcalan's call.
Mazloum Abdi, commander of the Kurdish-led forces SDF operating in Syria's semi-autonomous Kurdish areas, is also positively inclined. During a video conference, he says that peace in Turkey means that Turkish attacks in the Syrian areas cannot be justified.
However, Öcalan's message only applies to PKK and does not concern SDF in Syria, he clarifies.
The German Foreign Ministry calls Öcalan's call a "historic opportunity" to put an end to the long-standing uprising against the Turkish state. Many people with Turkish and Kurdish backgrounds live in Germany.
"An end to violence is an important first step, but further steps are required … This includes, above all, respecting and guaranteeing the cultural and democratic rights of Kurds in Turkey," says a German Foreign Ministry spokesperson.
