Russia's President Vladimir Putin has not spoken on the phone with the USA's incoming President Donald Trump, according to the Kremlin's headquarters.
The newspaper The Washington Post reported on Sunday that Trump, in a phone call, urged Putin not to expand the war in Ukraine. According to the newspaper's sources, the two discussed "peace in Europe" and a swift solution to the war in Ukraine.
The Kremlin's spokesperson Dmitrij Peskov now claims that it is "completely false" and that the alleged conversation never took place. Nor does Putin have any plans to talk to Trump in the near future, according to Peskov.
During the election campaign, Trump repeatedly claimed that he would put an end to the war in Ukraine "within 24 hours" by negotiating a settlement.
