A man employed at a zoo in Jerusalem has been killed by a leopard that had escaped from its enclosure.
The tragedy occurred when the 36-year-old was conducting a tour with visitors on Friday at the Biblioteca zoo in southwestern Jerusalem – where, among other things, lions, tigers and cheetahs are also found, reports BBC.
The facility, which is temporarily closed to visitors, states that it is cooperating with the police to investigate how the leopard "during a routine activity" managed to escape and enter the yard where the man worked.
He was taken to hospital with extensive injuries to his upper body, but despite emergency treatment, his life could not be saved.
The facility writes that the staff's "pain is enormous" and that their thoughts are with the man's family.
