Estonia's former Prime Minister Kaja Kallas promises to support Ukraine "as long as it is needed" if she becomes the new foreign minister in the EU Commission.

We must ensure that Russia loses its last colonial war, says Kallas in the hearing she is undergoing in the EU Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee before taking office.

In a clear nod to the new US leadership, she simultaneously draws repeated parallels between Russia and China.

If the US is worried about China, they should first and foremost be worried about Russia, says Kallas in Brussels.

The Estonian has been nominated as the successor to Spanish Josep Borrell and is expected to take office with the rest of the new EU Commission on December 1.
