Sixth in the World Championship in February – missed final in the Olympics after only 18th place on 400 meter freestyle.
Victor Johansson summarized:
There was no superpower in my porridge this morning. What has happened? I felt directly after 100-200 meters that lactic acid started to come, says Johansson.
The time 3.47,98 was only enough for 18th place. For a place in the final, he would have needed to beat his own Swedish record (3.45,87 from the World Championship) by twelve hundredths.
The Jönköping swimmer has both 800 and 1,500 meter freestyle left in pool swimming and thereafter also long-distance swimming in Seine.
On 800 meter freestyle, he also came sixth in the World Championship in February and previously, he has achieved the best result in just that event.
On the question of whether he is worried about the continuation, he answers:
I am where I am and there is not much I can do. I will talk a bit with Niko (Martikainen, the coach) about how we will set it up now. I have a day off tomorrow and then it's 800 on Monday. It's just to prepare oneself.
