The average interest rate for new housing loans with variable interest rates (3 months) was in January at 3.30 percent, compared to 3.46 percent in December. For loan agreements with binding periods between 1 and 5 years, the interest rate averaged in January at 2.91 percent, compared to 2.85 percent in December.

"The interest rate for all interest binding periods over 3 months for households' new agreements for housing purposes has started to rise slightly in January 2025. At the same time, the variable interest rate continues to fall", says Tove Åkerrén Ögren, national economist at SCB, in a press release.

At the same time, the lending rate for housing loans is increasing, from 1.4 percent in December to an annual growth rate of 1.6 percent in January.
