The Iranian artist and Grammy winner Shervin Hajipour has been ordered to report to prison by an Iranian court, reports Kulturnytt.
Earlier this year, the artist was sentenced to three years and eight months in prison and a two-year travel ban for "inciting people to create unrest and disrupt national security" and for spreading regime-critical propaganda.
This after Hajipour published the song "Baraye" in 2022 in connection with the protests in Iran following Mahsa Zhina Amini's death. The song gathered millions of Iranians and spread globally. The year after, he was awarded an American honorary Grammy for the song.
The new message comes from Hajipour himself in an Instagram post where he announces that his appeal against the verdict has been rejected.
One of Iran's most famous actresses has now encouraged the country's new president, who used "Baraye" in his election campaign, to do something about Hajipour's fate, according to Kulturnytt.
