India bans import of Chinese solar cells

Only Indian companies can be used when energy companies want to install solar cells. The new law applies from 2026 and is clearly aimed at shutting out Chinese suppliers.

Today, Chinese companies account for around 70 percent of the equipment for all solar cell installations in India.

Already today, Indian companies that perform assignments for the state must use local solar cell suppliers. This is now being extended to apply to all projects, including private ones.
