Over 200 employees within the Japanese defense are being disciplined, the Defense Department announces.
An investigation has been conducted among personnel in the navy, among other things due to allegations of violating the law on protection of sensitive information and making false claims for free meals and compensation for special assignments.
Classified information has, according to the investigation, been mishandled on 38 fighter jets and submarines, but no sensitive information has, according to Defense Minister Minoru Kihara, leaked outside the military or caused problems.
Minoru Kihara has apologized and states that the problems "significantly damage the public's trust" in the department and the defense.
