The Polish hockey team Unia Oswiecim's supporters welcomed Eisbären Berlin to the CHL match with a stand banner that referred to the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp, located near the ice rink.

"German death camps – welcome to the city of your greatest crimes", it read on the banner.

The banner was quickly removed and the Polish club apologized. However, the Champions Hockey League will fine Unia Oswiecim, writes the European hockey league to Expressen.

"CHL provides no platform for any political statements of any kind, regardless of context", writes CHL to the newspaper.

Over one million Jews were killed by the Germans in Auschwitz-Birkenau during World War II.
