Record win for Skistar: Prioritizing the mountains

A Christmas and New Year's holiday with many days off, plus a weak krona that attracts foreign visitors and gets Swedes to vacation domestically. These are some of the ingredients in the record-strong quarter that Skistar is now presenting.

Skistar increased its profit by 13 percent to 1.2 billion kronor during the second quarter, i.e. the period from December 1 to February 28, 2024/2025.

At the same time, revenue rose by 6 percent to nearly 2.8 billion kronor.

Despite the uncertain global situation, we see that the mountains continue to be prioritized as a family vacation. It actually started at Christmas and New Year's when we reached an occupancy rate of 99 percent and then it has continued all the way to the sports break weeks, says Skistar's CEO Stefan Sjöstrand.

He describes the operating result as "the best in the company's history".

The record-strong period began with the favorable calendar around Christmas and New Year's with many red days. At the same time, the Swedish krona has been weak, which has benefited Skistar in several ways.

We get more international guests who are interested in Sweden due to the weak krona, but we also get many Swedes who choose to stay at home because it's simply too expensive to travel abroad, says Stefan Sjöstrand.

For the coming winter season, 2025-26, the booking situation is 5 percent higher compared to the same period last year and 15 percent of the season's volumes are booked.

Skistar will continue its strategy in the near future to invest in what the company calls the guest experience. This includes, among other things, a new gondola lift in Trysil, a new ski area in Vemdalen, and a new lift in Åre Björnen.

The investments mean higher prices for Skistar's guests.

We have had a price increase of around 3-5 percent on our products in recent years. For us, it's important that we can balance our costs, of course. We see that our guests are willing to pay for when we get good quality and a good guest experience, says Stefan Sjöstrand.
