A self-portrait by the British 20th-century artist Norman Cornish has been discovered – on the back of another artwork. This is reported by The Guardian.
The artwork was found during preparations for an exhibition at The Bowes Museum in Durham, where Cornish's art is being exhibited alongside works by another British artist, LS Lowry.
It was when conservator Jon Old worked on Cornish's painting "Bar scene" that the hidden self-portrait was discovered.
To my surprise, this wonderful painting was on the other side, it was quite magical, he says, according to The Guardian.
Norman Cornish was one of the most popular artists in northern England in his time. He was born in 1919 and died in 2014.
