Many artists and writers in the Nordic countries have experienced threats, violence, and harassment, and several have therefore abandoned assignments or changed their focus. This is shown by a new report from Kulturanalys Norden.

The survey consists of questionnaire surveys with responses from a total of 3,184 artists and writers in Denmark, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden.

"The negative consequences highlighted in the report are particularly serious, not only for the artists who are exposed but for society as a whole if artists and writers avoid certain topics or withdraw due to exposure or anxiety," says Malin Weijmer, operations manager at Kulturanalys Norden, according to a press release.

Among the Danish performing artists who participated in the survey, the figure is highest – 61 percent of them have experienced threats or harassment at some point, and 25 percent in the last twelve months.
