The US Vice President Kamala Harris assured some of the Democrats' heaviest donors on Friday that the party will win the presidential election in November.

We will win this election, she said at a digital meeting with the donors, according to a person who participated, writes the news agency Reuters.

The meeting was arranged at short notice and aimed to calm the donors, according to Reuters, whose sources state that several major campaign collections have been put on ice.

We know which candidate puts the American people first in this election: our president, Joe Biden, Harris continued.

Biden is sticking to his claim that he is the best candidate to beat Donald Trump in the presidential election, despite great concern in the party after the president's criticized debate performance against Trump at the end of June.

Over 30 Democratic members of the House of Representatives have publicly demanded that Biden step down in favor of a more energetic presidential candidate. Even four senators have appealed to him to step aside.

Several have pointed out Harris as a suitable replacement.
