In a telephone conversation with Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday evening, Rubio announced that it is the highest priority for the newly elected President Donald Trump to continue "the US's unwavering support for Israel", according to a spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry.

Rubio also congratulated Netanyahu on successes against Hamas and Hezbollah and promised to continue helping to secure the release of all remaining hostages in Gaza.

The ceasefire between Israel and Hamas began on Sunday, after the war had lasted for 15 months. The ceasefire agreement includes exchanges of hostages and prisoners.
