The dangerous disease mul- and foot-and-mouth disease has been detected in a larger herd of dairy cows in Hungary, reports the National Veterinary Institute (SVA) in a press release.
The Hungarian authorities have taken measures to combat the infection and reduce the risk of transmission.
It is still unknown how the cows were infected.
During the last three months, there have been no registered movements of animals susceptible to the disease from Hungary to Sweden, according to SVA.
In January this year, three cases of the disease were detected in water buffalo in Germany.
Mul- and foot-and-mouth disease is a serious and contagious viral disease that does not affect humans but cloven-hoofed animals such as cows, pigs, and sheep, as well as wild cloven-hoofed animals.
