The Finnish automatic carbine AK24 – which is to replace the older and heavier AK5 in the Swedish defense – has been banned from firing, reports Dagens Nyheter.
The firing ban has been introduced since a small number of AK24s that have been tested in training of conscripts have not functioned as they should.
For some reason, there has been a delay of about one second between pressing the trigger and the shot being fired. Until the investigation is complete, a firing ban on AK24 has therefore been issued, says Philip Simon, senior advisor at the Defense Forces' operational leadership, to the newspaper.
There is no information about anyone being injured due to the delayed firing, but the risk of accidental shots increases.
