The fires in California mean that the NHL game between home team Los Angeles and visiting Calgary on Wednesday is being moved.

Tens of thousands of people have been ordered to evacuate and in Los Angeles, two people have died, according to the police.

No new date has been announced for Los Angeles–Calgary. On Thursday, Los Angeles Lakers are to meet Charlotte in NBA basketball in the same arena in central LA, but no similar decision has yet been made for that match.

At least 70,000 people in the affected areas have been ordered to evacuate. In addition to the two fatalities, "a significant number" of people have been injured in the fires, according to the police in Los Angeles.
