Large fatbergs that block sewage pipes are formed when substances like oil and cooking fat mix with, among other things, old rags and wet wipes. They have become an increasingly severe problem in larger cities. Similar phenomena have been reported from, among others, London, New York, Denver, and Valencia.
Last year, the authorities in the British capital managed to eliminate a fatberg, whose size was compared to three double-decker buses, which blocked a sewage system.
