In 1999, Nelson sued her son for defamation and demanded eleven million dollars. The judge ruled in her favor, but the amount was significantly lower – 25,000 dollars.
Later, Eminem expressed regret for his actions and in the song "Headlights" from 2013, he apologized to her.
When Eminem was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2022, Nelson congratulated her son and said "I love you very much. I knew you would get there. And it has been a long journey".
Debbie Nelson passed away on Tuesday. She was 69 years old.
