Musk's million lottery has previously been accused of being illegal and of aiming to influence voters in the presidential election between Republican Donald Trump and Democrat Kamala Harris.
Last week, a prosecutor filed a lawsuit against Musk, claiming that the million lottery was illegal. On Thursday, all parties were ordered to court, but Musk did not show up – instead, he continued the lottery.
In court, Musk's lawyers admit that the winners of the "lottery" are selected in advance to ensure that they "share the right values".
The recipients of a million are not chosen by chance, says Musk's lawyer Chris Gober, and continues:
We know exactly who will be awarded a million today and tomorrow.
Despite the admission, the "lottery" is allowed to continue, according to the court.
Musk's campaign involves registered voters being able to win a million dollars, equivalent to over ten million kronor, if they sign a declaration supporting freedom of speech and the right to bear arms. The aim is said to be to get Republicans to register and vote for Donald Trump in the upcoming presidential election.
Tesla and X CEO Musk has said that the final winner of the lottery will be announced on Tuesday, the same day as the presidential election.
