The sale of new cars is slowing down across the board, according to the industry organization Mobility Sweden. Electric car sales continue to fall.

A total of 19,036 new passenger cars were registered in August, a decrease of over 20 percent compared to the same month in 2023.

"The decrease can be partly explained by temporary delivery disruptions at certain brands. Furthermore, the private market is still cautious as the Swedish Central Bank's interest rate cuts have not yet strengthened households' purchasing power," writes Mobility Sweden.

More than half, 56 percent, of new registrations in August were chargeable cars. The share of pure electric cars amounted to almost 36 percent.

But electric car sales are going down, down 31 percent in August and 21 percent so far this year, according to Mobility Sweden.
