At least four people were killed when a heavily trafficked, 200-meter-long suspension bridge collapsed in Ecuador, according to fresh information.
"The bodies of four missing people have been found", the authorities write on X. The rescue service continues to search for another person.
Four trucks, one car, and two motorcycles plunged into the Magro River. The accident occurred about five miles north of the port city of Guayaquil on Wednesday.
Images from the bridge collapse show a truck hanging over the guardrail at the bridge edge, a few meters from the water.
There was no prior information that the bridge was in poor condition, according to the governor of the province of Guayas. The collapse is believed to have been caused by the bridge being overloaded.
