This year's harvest is expected to be slightly better than last year's disastrous harvest, according to the Swedish Board of Agriculture's prognosis. The grain harvest is estimated to amount to 5.1 million tons, 18 percent higher than in 2023.
However, the harvest is smaller than the average.
"Inadequate and delayed establishment of both autumn-sown and spring-sown crops, combined with early summer drought, reduced this year's harvest to below the five-year average," writes the Swedish Board of Agriculture.
The total harvest of rapeseed and winter rape is expected to be 289,400 tons, a few percent lower than last year.
The harvest of autumn rapeseed is estimated to be below average, while the pea harvest is both higher than last year and higher than the average over the past five years.
According to the Federation of Swedish Farmers, LRF, the prognosis means increased revenue for Swedish farmers of around 1.5 billion kronor for 2024, which can be compared to the loss of around 7 billion kronor last year.
