Honkavaara replaces Kim Bergstrand and Thomas Lagerlöf, who left the club last autumn and were temporarily replaced by Roberth Björknesjö.
The contract with Jani Honkavaara, who joins from the Finnish championship team Kups, is written for three years.
"It's fantastically fun and it feels almost unreal to be here at Djurgården", says Honkavaara to [the club's website](– For me personally, it's something of a boyhood dream that comes true. When I got my UEFA Pro-license in 2012, I said I want to become a coach in Veikkausliga and then in a Nordic top league, and now I've achieved that goal. It's fantastically fun and it feels almost unreal to be here at Djurgården, explains Jani, who was confident in his decision when the concrete question was asked.).
During the year, he has led Kups to victory in both the league and the cup. For his achievements, he was named coach of the year in Finland.
"We're very happy that Jani chose to come to Djurgården – a person who has made a big impression on us, both as a person and as a leader", says Djurgården's sports manager Bosse Andersson.
