Now it's definitely clear: Sarah Sjöström will start on 100 meters freestyle in the Olympic Games in Paris.
It will be a battle out there, but she has a big chance of winning a medal, says national team captain Martina Aronsson.
The 100 meters freestyle starts on Tuesday morning with qualifying rounds and the final will take place on Wednesday evening. Michelle Coleman will also swim the distance.
Sarah Sjöström is a big favorite to win gold on 50 meters freestyle, which will be decided next weekend, and for a long time, her plan was to only participate in this individual event in the Olympic Games in Paris.
But when the entry lists were published, Sjöström's name was also on the list for 100 meters freestyle.
After her two swims on the distance in the 4x100 meters freestyle relay, where Sweden finished fifth, she didn't give any indication about her individual participation.
But on Sunday morning, the final decision was made.
Sjöström swam 51.99 with a flying start in the qualifying rounds and 52.53 on the starting stretch in the final.
Has she been hesitant?
You evaluate yourself after each race. It's the mental game that's going on in their heads. All elite athletes waver. We've talked about joy, courage, and sticking to your plan, says Martina Aronsson.
Sarah Sjöström holds the world record on 100 meters freestyle with 51.71, but she's not entering the distance as a gold favorite, but rather as a strong medal contender.
So far in her career, she has won one Olympic bronze, four World Championship silvers, and one World Championship bronze on 100 meters freestyle in long course.
I have extremely high hopes for her, she feels that she's in shape and she's looking forward to it, says Aronsson.
