The Philippine coast guard says that oil is leaking from the cargo of the oil tanker that sank off the coast of Manila last week.
An oil spill stretching several kilometers has been discovered, but earlier it was believed that only boat fuel had leaked out.
Divers who inspected the ship's hull saw a "minimal leak" from the valves, said coast guard spokesperson Armando Balilo, adding that it was "not alarming yet".
The ship was carrying 1.4 million liters of industrial fuel oil. If all the oil in the tanker were to leak out, it would be the largest spill in Philippine history, according to the coast guard.
The ship "capsized and eventually sank below the water surface", according to the Philippine coast guard. One crew member died.
