"We are incredibly excited to play a World Championship tournament in front of blue and yellow fans. It's been a few years since we last competed in Sweden – and a lot has happened since then, both for us and the interest in beach volleyball. The opposition will be tough, everyone will want to beat us on our home sand, but our sights are undoubtedly set on standing on top of the podium", say Olympic gold medalists David Åhman and Jonatan Hellvig in a press release.
A total of around 30 men's teams will participate. It's not the first time Sweden is hosting a World Championship tournament, but it's the first time since the tour was revamped in its current form.
Behind Åhman/Hellvig are Jacob Hölting Nilsson, 19, and Elmer Andersson, 18, who towards the end of 2024 won two challenger tournaments – the second-highest level on the world tour.
