Two of China's former defense ministers, Li Shangfu and his predecessor Wei Fenghe, are expelled from the Communist Party, reports state media. Both are said to have seriously violated party discipline and the law.
Wei Fenghe was defense minister from 2018 but was succeeded in early 2023 by Li Shangfu, who was fired after just seven months in office.
They are suspected, among other things, of corruption. Li Shangfu is also accused of offering money to others to seek "unjustified benefits", which constitutes the suspected crime of bribery, writes state-owned New China (Xinhua).
The news of Li Shangfu losing his job as defense minister came in October last year. At that time, he had not been seen in public for a few months.
