China is holding an important political meeting, the so-called third plenum, from 15-18 July, reports state media.
The meeting was intended to be held last autumn but was postponed. However, it is now expected to finally clarify uncertainties surrounding the leadership's strategies for the future, and the meeting may provide some indications of the country's economic direction.
According to the state news agency New China (Xinhua), the meeting will "primarily investigate issues related to further comprehensive deepening of reforms and promoting Chinese modernisation".
The ruling Communist Party in China holds its party congress every five years. This is where, among other things, the Central Committee is elected, which usually convenes in seven plenums during each five-year period. At the third plenum, policies that can change the direction of the country's economy are often announced.
