"I hate you all really much", writes rapper Cardi B on Instagram after Donald Trump declared himself the winner of the election on Wednesday morning, Swedish time.
Actress and singer Bette Midler quotes journalist HL Mencken in a post on X:
"When a candidate meets the voters, he does not meet sane people, he meets a group of people whose distinguishing feature is that they are unable to weigh ideas against each other", part of the quote reads.
Warns of Trump's leadership
"The Wire" actor Wendell Pierce warns on his social media of the consequences of Trump's leadership, and "Riverdale" star Lili Reinhart brings up the sexual assaults that Trump has been accused of committing against women:
"I can't grasp the feeling of those women who have told of being sexually assaulted by Trump. To see millions of people voting for their perpetrator. My heart breaks for these women. I believe you, and I'm so sorry", she writes.
Among those lamenting the election result are also actors John Cusack, Russell Brand, and Christina Applegate. In a post on X, the latter writes despairingly: "Why?"
Swedish tribute: "Poetic justice"
Author Stephen King compares democracy to signs in stores that sell beautiful, but fragile, things. He writes that the things are lovely to look at and delightful to hold, but if they break, it's over.
But many are also celebrating Trump – here in Sweden, among others, former Army of Lovers star Dominika Peczynski is thrilled about the election result:
"Never has a person been so globally bullied, ridiculed, opposed, underestimated, and harassed as President Trump. With a couple of murder attempts on top of that. Today, he's 'The great comeback kid'. There's a poetic justice in this", she writes.
