Among the winners in the OMXS30 index with the most traded shares were the major banks. Handelsbanken and Nordea, for example, rose 1.6 and 1.5 percent, respectively. But the best performer in OMXS30 was the heat pump manufacturer Nibe, up 1.7 percent.

The biggest losers in OMXS30 were the real estate company SBB, down 2.8 percent, and the mining company Boliden, down 1.7 percent.

The share in the forestry company Stora Enso, which reported a slightly worse result than expected in its year-end report, fell 6.1 percent.

In the currency market, the krona strengthened slightly against the dollar, but the euro exchange rate was virtually unchanged at the close of the stock exchange. A dollar then cost 10.87 kronor and a euro 11.24 kronor.

With Tuesday's rise, the OMXS index has risen 7.7 percent since the turn of the year.

The leading European stock exchanges in Frankfurt, London, and Paris rose marginally.

The Tokyo stock exchange was closed for the day, but the other leading Asian stock exchanges fell slightly after the American President Donald Trump's announcement to impose 25-percent tariffs on steel and aluminum imports to the USA.
