As for making up for lost years of focus on reading, it will take time. The students who cannot or do not read well enough, then they must train on it, says Johan Pehrson to SVT News.

Pehrson has repeatedly highlighted the poor reading ability among a large proportion of elementary school students. In the latest PISA measurement, 24 percent of 15-year-old Swedes did not reach a basic level of reading comprehension.

It is an extremely serious situation in Sweden. We have a major reading crisis, says Pehrson.

The situation at the university level has been highlighted by Helsingborgs Dagblad and Sydsvenskan, where university teachers in Lund and Malmö have testified that some students on demanding programs cannot manage to get through the course literature. Even We Teachers has reported on the lack of reading and writing skills among students on, among other things, medical and psychology programs.
