Bosnian Serb accused of undermining peace

Bosnia's High Representative, the German Christian Schmidt, accuses leaders of the Serbian population group of trying to destabilize the situation in the country and "undermine" existing peace agreements.

In a statement on Friday from the Office of the High Representative (OHR), Schmidt warned that the entity Republika Srpska in Bosnia and Herzegovina is actively working to counter the Dayton Agreement from 1995, which ended the internal conflicts in the region.

In the peace agreement, Bosnia and Herzegovina became a sovereign state, with the Bosnian Serb entity Republika Srpska as a part.

Contradictions have long flourished in the country, and Schmidt's warning came days after the Bosnian Serb separatist leader Milorad Dodik was sentenced to one year in prison for not following previous decisions from Schmidt.

Dodik has, among other things, advocated for a possible secession of the Bosnian Serb part of the country from the rest of Bosnia.
