When the magazine summarizes the first 25 years of the 2000s, it lists the 25 greatest artists. Taylor Swift is in second place, Rihanna is in third, Drake is in fourth, and Lady Gaga is in fifth.
Billboard writes that the choice of Beyoncé for first place, among other things, is due to the fact that she has been current and consistent in her career. She was still a teenager when Destiny's Child broke through, and now she is a 42-year-old married mother of three.
"In between, there were exactly zero occasions when Beyoncé was not Beyoncé in capital letters. There are no bad periods for Bey, no periods when she disappeared for half a decade", the magazine writes.
It is also argued that although Taylor Swift on paper has been more successful and sold more records, Beyoncé has also been active all 25 years – and had as many number one singles as Swift.
