At the same time as it is brutal winter in northern Norway, extreme heat is blowing in from the south. 18.7 degrees in Sunnmøre is believed to be a new December record.

If it is approved, it is a new national heat record for the month, says the duty meteorologist Magnus Haukeland to the newspaper VG about the measurement, which was recorded on Sunday morning in the county of Møre–Romsdal on southwestern Norway's coast.

The measurement station will be checked on Monday to ensure that the temperature measurement has not been disturbed in any way.

Just a few dozen miles northeast, from the neighboring county of Trøndelag and northwards, warnings are instead issued for extreme winter weather.

The Red Cross warns of a high risk of avalanches and other types of landslides, and advises people to simply stay at home.

Think about where and when you go. It's stupid to expose yourself to danger if you don't have to. The best thing is to stay at home if you can, says the leader of the Red Cross rescue team in Norway, Jarle Bjørge Øverland, to Dagbladet.
