A police officer in Australia is being investigated after making a Nazi salute and praising Adolf Hitler in front of recruits and employees at the police academy in Melbourne.
The police officer, who has served as an instructor at the academy, has been suspended pending prosecution.
Police Chief Shane Patton expresses "disappointment, disgust, and anger at this frightening behavior".
There is no place for this type of behavior in our society, let alone within the police. For this reason, I want to offer my deepest apologies to the Jewish community and to the entire society, he said at a press conference.
The police officer, who has served for 40 years, risks up to one year in prison for the incident.
