The British nature filmmaker David Attenborough says he is "extremely disturbed" that his voice has been cloned by AI, writes Deadline.
The BBC revealed that Attenborough's characteristic voice has appeared in several clips on social media, but that AI versions have been used without his permission.
After spending a lifetime trying to convey what I believe is the truth, I am extremely disturbed to discover that my identity is now being stolen by others and I strongly oppose them using it to say whatever they want, he tells the BBC.
After the BBC's revelation, the person who created the clone posted a clip with the clarification that Attenborough is not on their payroll – but the clip was simultaneously read out with the AI-cloned voice that sounded almost identical to Attenborough's.
AI voices are a controversial issue even in Hollywood. Earlier this year, film star Scarlett Johansson protested against Open AI launching an AI voice that had striking similarities with hers.
