At least 28 people have died in floods and landslides in the Indian state of Gujarat in recent days. Some of them have drowned and others have been hit by falling trees, the government reports.

Rivers have overflowed and more than 30,000 people have been forced to leave their homes. More rain is expected on Thursday.

According to reports in The Indian Express, even more – 35 people – have died in the state so far.

Around 1,000 villages are without electricity.

In neighboring Bangladesh, at least 40 people have been killed in floods during the same period. There, nearly 300,000 people have sought shelter in temporary shelters.
