The former ruling Baath Party in Syria is discontinuing all work indefinitely.
The party's central leadership has decided to "discontinue the party's work and activities in all their forms... until further notice", it writes in a statement published on the party newspaper's website.
The Baath Party, which was completely loyal to Syria's deposed President Bashar al-Assad, has previously announced that it supports a transitional government.
The party's properties and money will also be handed over to the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Finance.
