An armed and masked person broke into the mining company LKAB in Kiruna during the night against Thursday.
The person managed to get into the drilling rig at the Per Geijer deposit, where LKAB is conducting exploration drilling, and showed themselves to the personnel on site. Work at the site has been stopped for the time being.
That's where the intrusion took place, it's out in the woods and not actually cordoned off, says Anders Lindberg, press chief at LKAB.
No one is reported to have been injured in connection with the incident, which has been reported to the police and Säpo.
Last week, LKAB was subjected to vandalism on four drilling machines in the same area. Water hoses and tires were then cut and fuel drums were emptied.
We don't know who did this and why, but it's clear that it's remarkable that it happened so close together, says Anders Lindberg.
Observations have been made in the surrounding area in connection with the case, but LKAB is currently withholding more information pending investigation.
The police have filed a report on gross weapons offense, but there is currently no suspect, they write on their website.
