The serious disease anthrax has been detected on a farm in China, which has prompted authorities to take drastic measures.
The farm is located near the city of Liaocheng in the eastern part of the country and the disease has affected both humans and animals. Local authorities have closed off the farm and euthanized all the animals, reports the state-owned TV channel CCTV.
So far, five farm workers who have had direct contact with the animals have been infected with the disease. The affected individuals, who have mild symptoms, have been isolated and are receiving treatment.
Anthrax is a serious disease caused by a bacterium. The disease is most common among animals, but can in rare cases affect humans. Anthrax is classified in Sweden as a generally hazardous disease.
